Today, the plan was to walk a portion of the Fimmvorduhals trail - this trail is 25 km (15.5 miles) long and is considered a challenging hike. It can be done in 1 or 2 days and hikers usually start at Skogafoss and end in Thorsmork. If done in 1 day, its a long day ! This is one of the most beautiful hikes in Iceland - one crosses many waterfalls (26-28) and 2 glaciers. My plan was to walk from Skogafoss to the Skoga River bridge, a 8 km walk and then turn back. The views were spectacular.
On the way to Skogafoss, we drove by this farm famous for its Bra-fence. There were hundreds of bras and a few underwear on its fence. It was kind of cool to see this!
There were some 500 steps to get to the top of the Skogafoss waterfall, from where the hike begins.
Once we walked a bit away from the Skogafoss, there was hardly anyone else on the trail.
There were so many waterfalls. Around every bend was a beautiful waterfall.
It was not a hard trail- gently sloping ups and downs.
Some sections had steep downhills.
Satto walked way ahead and often would wait for us 3 to catch up.
Another of our famous star jumps! Neel would sit low to the ground to make it seem we jumped high! I was a really bad jumper.
A waterfall into a deep canyon like area.
Doing some crazy dance! and another better star jump than the earlier one.
We continued walking. You can see Satto far ahead at the top of the hill.
The views were so beautiful with the green grass, the lovely clouds and the amazing sound of the waterfalls.
There were some sections where we had to cross a small river. There were stones on which we could skip across without getting our feet wet.
Another waterfall deep in a canyon.
The trail was well marked.
We stopped for lunch near a roaring waterfall. We saw some other folks here, who were also doing the hike. It was the perfect lunch spot.
After lunch we decided to turn back. So we did not make it to the Skoga River bridge. We took too many stops to admire all the waterfalls on the way and had to turn back, so we would not get too late to reach back to the starting point.
Alex did his solitary star jump on top of the little cliff that was jutting out over a waterfall.
The view from the top of Skogafoss. You can see the ocean in the distance.
We walked back down to the car. There was a cafe there and we went there and had some refreshments after the long hike!
We had a plan to stop at Seljalandsfoss waterfall and also Gljufrabul waterfall, but ended up skipping it because we were all tired from the day of walking.
We checked into our cabins for the night.
We had a nice home cooked meal and went to bed.
